here's the review I wrote on the ride back before the police pulled us over for over an hour....

the trip up to this show was an adventure in of itself. the members of porphyria made room for us in their van. it was awesome cause I haven;t not driving to a show in a loooong time. hopefully they got fully sick of my stupid sense of humor. I know I did.

shadar logoth: we were a little late to the show, confusion caused by someone on a skimobile riding in to the show. I ran in to catch the last song and a half of these guys. it was pretty straight up black death metal. I don't think they've had many shows so they didn't move around that much.

my dying breath: I'm pretty sure that a large chunck of the audience was there just to see them, friends and family. They had a percussionist out in the front, standing and playing the drums I noticed a lot of times that he was playing when the other guy was playing so it sort of didn't make much of a different. some of their stuff was ok. though there was some that was slightly influenced by certain nu-metal bands that I wasn't too keen on. their second to last song was an odd cover. I think there is something about maine and doing weird covers. they played a hatebreed cover, "now, is the time" (the single from the newest CD). "If you don't know this song, you don't belong here"... yes, we all went to the palladium when that song was played over and over again.

screams of erida: these guys rocked the fuck out (and you can quote me on that one). Fresh off their CD release AND playing the kave 2 dates. the stage at the Kave seemed like it was carved from stone just for thes band. People in the audience liking the american terrorist dedication, maine is not bush country. the entire set, it seemed at least two membes were show boating on the speakers. kind of hard not to when there are 6 of them. I hear their new disc is so good that people will willingly be kicked in the balls to get themselves a copy. speaking of ...

there was a kid (named bubba?) who willing got kicked in the balls like three times just to get a copy of the new screams of erida. these were little love taped. these were full on... like internet videos that make you go "ouch!!!!"

hatred alive: like a lot of times I've seen them, they play really awesome DM with a barnes-era cannibal corpse feel. The only think is they play straight and don't move around enough. I think if the guitarist or bassplayer was up on the speaker, leaning into the audience a few times it would add something to the show. Ayhow, they played their song "fuck god" which is a good song and hilariously named.

porphyria: such an ugly and nasty band that they played with the lights almost completely off. I'm pretty sure that they were unable to see their instruments at all. they played their standard fair of songs, but did not play the new song that they were working on. It was funny, just like all the porphyria shows that I go to, there are people in the audience who say specifically that they were there just for porphyria. Seeing as this band has only been playing shows for a few months, they have gotten to an amazing spot.

cattle decapitation: unless you actually see this band, you don't get it. their cds are awesome, but still don't capture the amazing talent of the music-ship, the speed of the drumming, or the craziness of the singing. this is one band you need to see to believe. I also must say that I respect them more on a different level too. I had seen the http://www.peta2.com videos, promos, and give aways that have borne the "cattle decap" stamp on them, but I didn't really know what it was all about. it seems that they actually do think and care about animals and the message of peta, I know the singer is veggie. anyhow, absolutely nasty set. they played a bunch of songs of all their releases. all the titles I got were the same ones that they played at the palladium. In between the songs, josh, the guitarist, played country and even some AC/DC. at the end of the set, after going through 2 mics, travis got a wireless... it was like seeing chris barnes! SNNNAAAAAAKKKKKKESSSSS
ps: this time I took some pictures of the guitar rack for blue to jerk off to.

now, on to the next part of this review that I would like to hit, the Kave. I had NEVER been to the Kave before. I seriously wish I lived closer to it. It's attitude sort of reminded me of the bombshelter.. but like everything that is cool about the bombshelter, magnified by 30 and then all the things you hate about the bombshelter, fixed. Her and serge have similar attitude towards life/the bands/etc... and it's funny that they get the same tours a lot. the sound system there rocked first off. I know there was a few issues with the mics. but what ever, it was chill. a lot of people come out to shows up there (I mean, what else would they do?). I'm sure if the kids were there, they would be off getting preggo or drinking or both. Kathy totally treats the bands well. any band that goes up there gets mucho respect and amenities. the headliner has the option of sleeping there and gets a band room for them to relax in. she also cooks for them and all bands get pizza! Any band who gets the option to go up to this place seriously should do it. yeah, the drive sucks, but seriously! this place smokes almost any other place. I will be up there for the show on April 3rd (cryptopsy, porpyria) and will be trying to get to other shows when I can.
