what a late show for a weeknight! that kind of sucked. I would like to say again that my review should be read from the stand point that I don't like nu-metal. with that preface, let me begin.

descend: they sounded a bit like tool. the lead singer looked really familiar.

six side: reminded me of 95. pre-nu-metal loud rock.

bloomsimple: well, this band features VOD members. I was a huge fan of the first couple VOD cds... but we all know how their last cds turned out. I was expecting to hear crap and I was hoping to hear old VOD. er.. it was a little of both I guess. Their cd is coming out and I'm probably not going to dig it, but live it was decent. only one track (the second I think) sucked.

candiria: oh man! I've never really liked a full candiria song. normally, they mess a song up with rapping or something. This set was awesome. they played a lot of songs where they mixed up their "typical" jazz time-signature change-ups with what sounded like mashuggah. it was cool to say the least. having seen them a few times over the passed few years, this was the best set I've ever seen them do.. which is odd since they just released the worst CD ever.
I guess candiria's been the band that's been holding up this tour and it was evident last night. I would say 1/2 the crowd left after candiria finished.

otep: a lot of people have talked about liking this band so they were sort of the "driving force" behind me deciding to go to this show. I sort of thought I was going to hate their much... especially when I was on the side of the stage and muscle city chris told me that the guitar play was in ICP!?! They started, Otep goes off talking all crazy.. I'm sure it's just an act, but I guess a lot of people connect with what she's saying. The music wasn't terrible. I could listen and enjoy it in the same way I can listen to some soulfly. I noticed some of the drumming was heavy on the toms like soul fly too.
when Otep finished, the entire crowd turned and headed for the door.

american head charge: first of all, their tour manager was really cool. such a nice lady. These guys went on after 12:30 and there weren't many people left, but everyone that was left packed right up to the front. I listened for a few songs and it was ok. a little too "jump the fuck up". It reminded me of a more pissed off nu-fear-factory with out the good drumming. The singer gave anderson some grief about saying it was last call, but whatever. At one point, the bassplayer pulled a reverse ascendancy and walked around the crowd (reverse since with ascendancy, it's the guitar players). But then one of the guitar played spat water at my camera in the crowd and then stared at me and mouth 'fuck you'.

you know, whatever, some people have to front or whatever on stage and I've been flipped off and everything which is all just part of their tough act. their set ended and I packed up my stuff and walked out. I saw that same guitar have a fan come up to him and then as they walked out side the guitar player started yelling "you want to punch me, come on, you got one fucking chance" and got in front of and in the face of their fan... who was a head taller and probably had 40lbs on the guitar player. the fan was just standing there like "WTF?!?" as this guy was yelling in his face. I wanted to go over and tell him to stop attacking a fan but he stopped after a minute and walked off... I'm definitely giving him the asshole of the night award.
