Give me a break, Metalguy. I have absolutely no official theory training and can play all Necrophagist rhythms (and some of the solos). I play it by ear and it does not take me ten times as long to be creative. I have never had a problem communicating with other musicians. Try not to cite bands like 'Necrophagist' as an example, you may think its talented but it's the same shit we've heard a million times before, with formulaic arpeggios etc, no unique qualities, no groundbreaking material. I'm not saying Necrophagist isn't good, before anyone jumps down my throat!
Most 'theory' experts I know end up playing in cover bands and sitting around muddling in their illusionary musical superiority, while other much less trained musicians sell millions of records because they have talent and feeling.
You think Nirvana had a lot of 'theory' training? Slayer? Compare their loyal fanbase to that of Necrophagist.
