The sheer gutturality (a word?) that has progressed in DM over the years does make for a certain kind of heaviness, but I don't at all agree with the idea that it detracts from the brutality and heaviness of bands like those I listed. Yeah, in my opinion for their time they were certainly brutal and yes, just because metal has gotten increasingly more faster and heavier, it doesnt make those past albums any less enjoyable. Consuming Impulse is a good example of an album that still levels you when you put it on.
