Yeah, that does make sense, it would be pretty solid, I would just becareful and not use bolts that are too thick, the metal breaks pretty easily when there's a lot of weight on there, but a hole through it would make it even less sturdy. My biggest problem was when I mounted two floor toms and half a dozen cymbals all on one side of the rack, the weight would break the memory locks. It never messed up the structural integrity of the rack itself, but the bar would constantly roll forward because it was too heavy. Otherwise, the thing worked great for me.
