The story that I heard about it, is that the lead singer got himself in some trouble, and was ordered by the judge to perform some community service. The singer then suggested that for his service, his band could perform for some disadvantaged folks. The judge, oblivious to the nature of his band or genre of music that they would play, approved. At least that's the story I heard.
