I drove illegally for 3 years before I got my license. That has to be the best way to become a perfect driver because the last thing you want to do is get pulled over for not stopping at a stop sign.
I passed mine the first time. I didn't see flying colors but I did well. It was maybe a 3 minute ride around the block. No parallel parking. Just drive the speed limit and come to complete stops. I told the driver to put on his seat belt which he said frightened him at first but scored me points for safety measures when he realized I could in fact operate a vehicle.
I had to take another driving test for the postal service. Driving a mail truck is pretty tricky at first, with the wheel on the other side and all. But, I passed that too.
