I just read this off Fanball.com

The News
Asante Samuel is not expected to sign a long-term extension with the Pats before Monday's deadline. In fact, he's quite likely to be a no-show when training camp begins later this month, according to the Boston Herald. The positive news is that a source close to Samuel said that while he wouldn't be suprised if the cornerback held out into the season, a more likely scenario would be ending his holdout early in camp so he'd be in shape for Week 1.

Our View
It appears the Pats' franchise player would rather be ready from the start, perform well, and seek a bigger contract next offseason.

Samuel is without a doubt one of the top corners in the league right now. If he plays for the Pats this season we'll be unstoppable. I'd really love to see this guy stay long term, but what the hell.
