I like where the bass is in the mix alot.
The guitars actually don't sound all that bad to me either.
The guitars don't sound BAD, per se, more that where they sit frequency wise is going to cause issues when I go to add vocals or keys, etc... I'm very happy so far with the bass, but I'm worried it won't carry over well in an actual song, since that is NOT typical of the type of bass line I write.
I can't hear the bass drum very well in the mix, the BD sample is good though.
I call that the "condo effect". Since I'm usually mixing at 3 in the morning, and I live in a condo, I tend to slowly keep turning the low end down, and down, and down, etc.... I noticed that too, originally it was very up front, now only the higher end seems to cut through. I miss the priority days when I could mix as loud as I wanted.
I'm not to keen on the high hat and snare samples though. They just sound too sampled like off a cheap electric drumset.
I was thinking the opposite. I think the hats in the EZdrummer are a huge improvement over the samples in the DFH2 set I was using before. I think it will show more when I use my own drum parts, since I use a lot of different velocities. At varying velocities, the samples change, so it becomes a more natural sound.
The snare, however, I am very happy with. I think it sounds excellent the way it is now, and with a little EQ and 'verb it'll sound awesome. Again with the velocities, the midi groove I used has very little variation. Also, I've been considering switching the sample. That's the ludwig snare on the recording, But I've been tinkering with the Pearl a lot lately.
the mix is pretty good over all though. Are you doing vocal tracks also?
Ultimately, it's going to be a HUGELY vocal oriented project. Unfortunately, it's going to be a long time before I can do any vocal tracking. I just have no where I can do them right now, and I have no inclination to move my computer rig and rent a rehearsal room. This project is most likely going to take years, and vocals won't happen til I can actually afford to get a house and move.
