I wouldn't say it is "just shred". If you slow down the fast passages, they would still sound good, they have melody and feeling throughout. Now, the Great Kat (whom I love) by comparison is straight up shred. She plays in three speeds :fast, faster, and fastest. Yngwie on the other hand varies stuff up. I think Seventh Sign is probably the best example of that. The instrumental entitled "Brothers" is slow and with so much feeling, and is a departure from the material on for example , Rising Force. Now, we are arguing Yngwie's musical diversity and whether he is capable of going in a different direction. The argument is rather pointless, in that, as this messageboard has shown, no one likes to concede to another poster. That doesn't matter much to me. But I would like to point out that Mr. Malmsteen plays a scalloped strat, and plays it fucking well. He can play along with an orchestra or a metal band The man has control over his instrument and can cause the sorts of noises to emit from the guitar that 99 percent of us can only dream of. So if Yngwie says he is headed in a new musical direction, I tend to believe he is capable of it. Just as he does not like Jelly Donuts.
