Perhaps this is a sign of my age and maybe I wouldn't feel the same way if I were ten years younger - but I don't think so - I just think 3D games began an embrace of good graphics and sound over good storylines and gameplay, kind of like spending a million dollars in the studio for a great production of shitty songs.

Zelda and Mario are glaring examples of this because they developed as far superior games on earlier systems with less emphasis on the newest graphics and sound technology, and so the flip in priorities is especially noticable.

I feel the same way about the Final Fantasy series, FFII and FFIII for SNES were two of the best videogames ever made, if not the best, and I remember playing a 3D FF years later for a couple minutes and wondering exactly what the hell it was they thought it had to do with the actual Final Fantasy series and the gameplay it was so well known for.

As a matter of fact, aside for sports and fighting games, the obsessive usage of 3-D has been a giant mistake, as ridiculous as if the film industry decided that ALL movies starting in the 90's would all now be made for 3-D, including great films and drama.
