To elaborate on this statement: a lot of drummer who claim that they "won't" blast, are in effect saying "I can't blast, and therefore I'm going to act like i don't want to anyways."
Now i don't think that songs NEED blasts to sound good, or that drummers that don't blast suck, it's more that in the type of music you described there inevitably will be parts that BEG for a blast over them.
