After Stormblast and The Other Side, it all went downhill.

Those were the gateway to its commercialization.

Cradle of Filth was of course wrecking things long before that.

Then there was some true homegrown shit.

I would say that during 1994-1996 black/death were tapering, by 1996-1998 were nearly stagnant, and after 1998 have been useless with maybe a handful of exceptions.

This is why many of the best musicians went on to ambient projects like Neptune Towers, Lord Wind, Khand, Winglord, Profane Grace, Raven's Bane, etc.
