No YouTube videos here... Just straight news.
Good news for the Sox since they lost V-mart. Now they just have to sign Crawford and we'll be in great shape.

when they hold the press conference that's when I'll believe, now back to waiting for Monday Night Football.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Dec 4,2010 12:31pm
Supposedly Gonzalez is already in Boston and already took his physical

Either way I like this deal....there's been rumblings that Kelly isn't the pitcher that everyone thought he was for a while now, and getting Gonzalez makes Rizzo expendable

Hell they could also probably deal Lars Andersen for someone decent after this deal too

I've heraing about this Anderson fellow for what feels like 10 years now. Is this kid ever going to pan out? And if that's all we traded for A-Gon, then so be it. Now sign Crawford, and call it a day.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Dec 4,2010 1:41pm
I say any combo of Crawford, Downs, and/or Lee (if for no other reason than to keep him away from the Yankees)

toggletoggle post by Arnold Brownschwagger at Dec 4,2010 2:05pm
We're good (w/ Youk/Peedy/and Dingleberry healthy) w/o Crawford.

toggletoggle post by Dankill at Dec 4,2010 5:01pm
I've been waiting on them to pull the trigger on this trade for a couple years now.
Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes for A-Gon. I approve!
Also, I bet that are gonna sign Wurth over Crawford.

Werth = JD Drew 2.0

No thanks!

I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying Theo will match a great move with a dumb one.

I'll take Reddick over either one of those bums

what a shame. this is why i hate major league baseball. the rich get richer. the pads contended last year, but need to keep payroll low and would never be able to give their hometown homegrown star the money he could get from a fatcat team. what's the point of being a padres fan now? you can't build on last year's success and you don't have your best player anymore. i hope the red sox miss the playoffs again this year and earl weaver comes back and leads baltimore to a surprise world series championship.

toggletoggle post by sethrich   at Dec 4,2010 7:43pm
Very surprised the Padres only want prospects. OK, take 'em!

It would be nice to get Crawford but he's prob gonna want a shitload of money over like 8 years, and if the Sox wouldn't give in to Victor for 4 years, I doubt they're doing it for Crawford.

Cliff Lee, howdy.

toggletoggle post by LPCustom at Dec 4,2010 11:53pm
J.D. Drew = real good ball player on a God-awful contract.

Glad we got A-Gon cause I've been hearing all about Crawford and Werth and they were not the sole answer/answers to our problems. You get one of those guys after A-Gon on hopefully a decent contract and I'm pumped. Would still die and go to Heaven if we could get Beltre back and figure out a way for him/Youk/Adrian to work in the infield together, although I know that's highly unlikely.

toggletoggle post by Analnomous at Dec 5,2010 7:28am
Youk could move to left field, he's played there a bit.

toggletoggle post by Fist at Dec 5,2010 11:55am
I was just going to ask, what do you think they'll do with beltre? he was our best hitter last season and we are probably going to ditch him know that youk is going to play 3rd again or maybe he can play shortstop???

i agree, but what is there to do? they can't trade Dice K, Beckett or Lackey, and for the money the Sox certainly aren't gonna put one of them in a set up role. The only solution to the starting pitching that i see is sign Lee, and hope one of the other three gets a lingering injury that heals just in time for a June injury to Lester or Bucholz.

i think the starting pitching will stay the same. as bad as it was last year, the team still won 89 games. if we sign Crawford (and with the addition of Gonzalez) this team has a great shot. i like our odds.

DEAL IS REPORTEDLY OFF

http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/this-just-in/2161574/report-gonzalez-deal

According to a tweet from SI's Jon Heyman, the trade that would have sent first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox is off. The 2 p.m. deadline for the sides to reach a contract extension passed without a deal being struck, with Heyman tweeting that the Red Sox "just could not reach [a] deal with [Gonzalez]."
A source reportedly told Heyman that Gonzalez' camp wanted an eight-year deal for the 28-year-old, while the Red Sox were more inclined to give a six-year deal.
The Red Sox had agreed to acquire Gonzalez on Saturday. The deal had Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes heading to San Diego in exchange for Gonzalez, who hit .298/.393/.511 last season with 31 homers and 101 RBI for the Padres.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

There have been some grumblings(by Sean McAdam) stating the deal is still on. Just that the extension is the sticking point and,in worse case scenario, A-Gon is a rental player just for this year.

That's even worse IMO.

toggletoggle post by DreadKill  at Dec 5,2010 4:45pm
I hope it's off. That would rule, but then the pads would trade him to some other fatcat team and baseball would still be terrible. I wish steroids had killed MLB for good.

ARE THEY HUFFING FUCKING GLUE?! HOW COULD THEY BLOW THIS?!

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2011 Boston Shylox!

toggletoggle post by LPCustom at Dec 5,2010 5:28pm
I know he's young, but 8 year contracts are a little rediculous. Yankees = morons for giving A-Roid another 10 in which he's gonna be there 'til 2017 if I remember correctly - I know he's older and all that too, but if they can even work down to 6 and worst case 7 they should likely pull the trigger.

I just read that the Gonzalez trade is happening, but without an extension for now

Translation: we have a deal done but we're trying to put one over on the league so this contract doesn't go against the luxury tax number for next season
