Cuz they kick ass live. Let me guess. They're nu-metal, right?
no they are just terrible. when i use the term "nu-metal" its to describe bands actually falling under that category, not just any band that i dislike. |
deftones actually are nu-metal though
i still like em |

i'm w/ you there dude. i've only seen them once, and it was opening for godsmack. but it was right in saratoga, so i went and just left when they were done.

i wouldnt classify them as nu-metal, they were around long before nu-metal ever showed its ugly head. they are bore-core |
i wouldnt call the deftones nu metal....their first cd is the only cd with nu metal tendencies, but their sound at the time was innovative. After that, nu metal bands started modeling themselves after that deftones sound. Thats why the deftones have been trying to keep their sound different on each album. But to each his own. Just because the deftones make heavy/melodic music with a strong back beat, does not make them nu metal |
ahh but nu-metal was classified as that group of bands(korn, deftones, limp bizkit) that came out around that time and had the rap influence to their sound
that's how i remember it at least
what bands would you consider nu-metal? |
by the time Korn and Limp bizkit were huge, deftones had erradicated any rapp-ish influence from their sound. They did it before anyone else did and quickly moved away from it. Just because deftones were lumped in with those bands by TV and magazines who didnt know shit to begin with, doesnt mean they're nu metal |
around the fur still had some of that rap/groove stuff on it though...but you can definitely tell the conscious effort they made to change their sound on white pony |
Around The Fur I'd say is one of my top 10 favorite albums. Personally I love the deftones, every cd of theirs I tend to like for some reason or another. Around The Fur I feel is when they broke away from the whole affiliation with Korn & Limp Bizkit and I feel they found their nich on that album.
I've never really called bands "nu-metal", if they're "nu-metal" I just consider them hard rock.
By the way for $9.99 for a show like that I'm definately gonna go. It'll bring back memories of my teenage years plus seeing Korn and Chino playing "Wicked" which is rarely ever played live should be a nice treat. |

let it be known that steve is my new best friend on this board
i feel the exact same way...i didnt get into them until my cousin let me borrow Around the Fur, then after that they became one of my favorite bands

It also doesn't mean they are good. I always thought Deftones were either boring as hell or mildly annoying. |
You know now I'm in the mood to listen to the deftones, maybe I'll listen to them in the car on my way home. |

lawn seats are 10 while others are $$$$$ |
nu-metal to me is bands like POD and Linkin Park. Deftones are just bore-core, plain and simple. i bought Around the Fur when "My Own Summer" was a hit, so that was many many years ago, and i threw it out like a week later because it was so boring. |
