i downloaded this like two weeks ago expecting it to be awesome, but this movie was a little above mediocre, dont buy into the hype.
the best part is the sense of claustrophobia you get when the cave collapses. you really dont get any feelings for any of the characters they are all pretty much interchangeable besides the spanish girl. i didnt get the whole part about the daughter and the birthday cake. the reasoning the main character has for turning on the spanish girl is completely unbelievable, and the homage to the movie 'carry' (however its spelled) was cute but unnecessary. the monsters are kind of gay looking and its pretty unbelievable that they hunt outside at night (or day? since they cant see), im pretty sure a bear would own like 20 of those things in the woods while they were hunting for food. the gore was cool though, the ending was gay. go see dog soldiers its way cooler.

LOL SPOILERS.

I saw the film, it was pretty good but it's probably not as good as critics are saying.

I didn't take it that the movie was actually about the creatures in the cave though. For me, that wasn't what "The Descent" referred to, and I appreciate horror movies with subtext.

I figured out the birthday cake, but I'm not going to say it here, too much of a spoiler.

i thought it was pretty lame. the acting was uber sub par, the only decent thing was the gore.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 6,2006 2:26pm
I don't know, it's not really the type of film where actors get to shine...

toggletoggle post by nick   at Aug 6,2006 3:17pm
i think for a horror movie to have any impact there really needs to be at least one or two sympathetic characters that you can connect with. this movie didnt have that.

Wolf Creek freaked me out. That spine-severing scene--ICK!

and there I was thinking she was gonna get away. How silly of me.

I fucking loved it! It was so much fun. Yeah some of the scares were predictable but some of them got me good. The characters could've been a bit more fleshed out, but from the get go you knew that all you needed to know about was Juno and Sara.

The daughter/cake thing was because the last thing she talked to her kid about was her birthday. As for Sara turning on Juno, it was completely apparent and believeable as to why she did it.

The gore was great, the score was moody and fitting, the acting was tight enough for a bunch of relative unknowns. It was no Aliens, but it was top notch as far as horror goes these days. Neil Marshall is going to become the next big horror filmmaker.

Just saw this a few hours ago.It was better than I thought it would be.The Saw 3 trailer looked SICK.It was so cool when Jigsaw said "Hello Boston, wanna play a game?"

Was a GREAT book.

What you people think of the Wicker Man? The preview looked weak to me.And the preview for the Covenant looked even weaker

toggletoggle post by Kinslayer at Aug 7,2006 12:10am
This was based on a book? By whom?

toggletoggle post by Y_Ddraig_Goch  at Aug 7,2006 2:02am
The movie will join dog soldiers as one of my favorite creature horrors

I hope Neil MArshall actually makes his dream zombie movie soon. Outpost. It's a zomedie that takes place on an oil rig in the ocean or some shit.

There's an amazing book called THE DESCENT by Jeff Long.
I didnt see the movie but the book is nothing like it, it's much better, both characterwise, storyline, and just the whole scope of it. Also it has real, live SATAN in it, but he's not like those silly cinematic Al Pacino satans we see in movies. Those are gay.
yeah, that was the scariest book I've read.
if you like some Stephen King stuff, etc., check it out.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Now, if he could only enlist Steven Seagal to arrive and kick the zombie terrorist ass.

I saw the UK version a few months ago on DVD-R I thought it was decent. I wonder if there's any difference from the US release? Anyone know.

toggletoggle post by Notorious_D.U.G. at Aug 7,2006 3:29pm
Spizoiler yall.

the ending is different in the US release. Right when Sarah sees Juno's ghost in the car it ends where in the UK it was a dream and she's still in the cave the the crawlers around her in the dark.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 7,2006 4:23pm
I have the UK version and it's far cooler.

toggletoggle post by Notorious_D.U.G. at Aug 7,2006 6:05pm
the extra 30 seconds at the end make it that much cooler?

toggletoggle post by Dankill at Aug 7,2006 11:32pm
Saw it Sunday night.
I liked it a lot and gave the shock factor a lot of credit.
I think while they could have done more with the characters, they did a good job later on with Sarah and Juno. Both characters did stuff you expected,, then didn't expect and were filled with irony. Both were not as good or as bad as you expected.

on syfy.
want to watch, but I'm going to either find my DVD or download it.
I used to do caving almost like what they are doing.

the alternate ending was better than the theater ending. or is it the theater ending is better? i forget which one is which but one is definitely better than the other.

toggletoggle post by TheRidersofDoom  at Dec 26,2009 8:34pm
Also, part 2 comes out soon in the UK

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 28,2009 6:04am
1/2 way through it now. I've fallen asleep to it.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 28,2009 6:15am
whoah... the first enconter scene was shocking to say the least.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Dec 28,2009 10:35am
supposedly when the girl sees the creature for the first time her reaction is genuine. i guess when the script was offered to the actresses they were never told there were creatures in the cave, they thought it was about a group of lost explorers. this was a pretty cool movie, the DVD ending is fucking stupid, but i've heard the alternate ending is way better.

toggletoggle post by trioxin245  at Oct 21,2012 2:56pm
watching this now. Characters are awful so far, nothing to them whatsoever, but the claustrophobic feel is definitely there.

toggletoggle post by Randy_Marsh at Oct 21,2012 4:48pm
There's a The Descent 2. So dumb. The tagline to it was something stupid like "They're going back in...Again"

toggletoggle post by KEVORD  at Oct 21,2012 5:02pm
I love the Descent. I actually bought a used dvd of it at a Blockbuster video in Scotland before it came out in the U.S.. I was pissed that they had changed the ending. Never saw the Descent 2. I should probably check it out.

toggletoggle post by Randy_Marsh at Oct 21,2012 5:18pm
I didn't like how the monsters were so humanoid looking. They could have made them so much more badass but instead they made them look bland and unoriginal.

I will give it some credit that they create a good atmosphere within the movie but as I said the monsters were uninspiring.

toggletoggle post by Randy_Marsh at Oct 21,2012 5:19pm
Or it would have been cool if the monsters were undead Tony Lazaros
