CLITORTURE:

Here’s a nice little split from the now defunct Clitorture and the relatively new Goreality. Both offer healthy doses of brutality by way of blasting death/grind fury.

Clitorture have the more interesting half of the split. They definitely lean to grind side of things but inject lumbering, sludgy breaks that absolutely crush when offset by their blasting. For the most part, these breaks are fairly direct with a good sense of groove, occasionally even having a doomy appeal to them. They definitely help break up their half of the split and add memorability. Vocally, these dudes employ a dual-vocal arsenal featuring a nice blend of highs and lows.

The production of Clitorture's half of the split suffers a little bit, sometimes getting a little bit muddy, distorting the guitar. Although muddy, the sound certainly is beefy; these guys don't have a bassist, but you can't really tell the difference.

Clitorture is no Rune, definitely focusing more on brutality and groove than technicality and melody, however their blend of grind and sludge is impressive none the less. It's a shame these guys called it quits.

GOREALITY:

Although Clitorture has the more stylistically interesting side of the split, Goreality are far more impressive musically. They play technical (but not over the top) NY style death metal. Think Unique Leader style, but less boring and tech-intensive. They do offer some respite via mid-paced groove, gnarly slam riffs, and a decent amount of drum variation compared to your typical blast blast blast type fodder.

This is nothing that's going to knock anyone's socks off, but it's an extremely solid slab of tech/death. The song structures are fairly standard, but the actual riffs have a good amount of energy and bite to them and in general are more interesting than most NYDM bands. The vocals are fairly standard ranging from lower-mid range snarling to cavernous growls.

Again, this isn't blowing my mind, but it's above average stuff, certainly more interesting than your average Unique Leader styled death metal act.

If the reviewer saw GOREALITY live he would be hooked.
