New site? Maybe some day.
ok, it came like an hour ago. I had to toss it in the case and hook everything up. I pretty much just tossed it together and plugged it in. after it yelled at me for not plugging in my video card, it's running perfectly.
2.14Ghz c2d 6400 2GB RAM |
Is this the T.V. computer you were building? |
yes. it worked perfectly until I typed that and then the nic stopped working. |
I'm assuming you're running MythTV. What disto are you using? |
ubuntu. not sure why eth0 disapeared. |
it stopped being able to locate eth0. not sure why. I wonder what it upgraded... maybe the kernel was updated and it doesn't have drivers. idk. I read on another site that some dude couldn't get the same chipset working so he just bought another card. I have a tripple speed card that was in the old computer. guess I could put that in this machine. |
I tried dmesg, nothing.
tried lshw, lspci, and modprobe. nothing (granted I was guessing the mod name).
I also tried /etc/networking... nothing.
must be the new kernel. |
it's still in Alpha, but if what people are saying about it is true, it should be a killer product once it steps out of the Alpha stage |
why? I have ubuntu 7.04 installed and myth .20. |
I'm not saying that Ubuntu7/Myth2 is a bad combo, but I thought you might be interested in testing out Mythbuntu, since you're more of a g33k then I am, lol |
If you didn't notice it, mythbuntu is an odd combination of the words ubuntu and mythtv. it's also weird that I'm running version 7.04 ubuntu and that mythbuntu is also version 7.04 |

ahhh.....
so what your saying is, it's the same thing. Right? Except though, the one he linked works, while the one you got pooped out on you.
I'd try it, except linux is the queer since any media box I build will be used for recording, |
nah, only his NIC pooped out on him. I'm not exactly sure why that happened either, have you tried another, older NIC?
I'm assuming that you're right about it being a kernel update that just doesn't have drivers for that particular card, and I'm sure that you've got another card kicking around somewhere (or you can swing by my house if you don't, since I probably have like 6 or 7 of 'em) |
DIE: if you read thread, you would know that answer.
AH: read the realease notes for mythbuntu and tell me it works. they aren't there yet. |
ok, I tossed my triple speed card in there. it's back up and running with the networking. w00t. |
ah, I didn't realize that card worked, for some reason I thought it did the same thing, oh well. my bad. |
I don't pay you to think
actually, I don't pay you at all. |
if you knew what I made at work, you'd understand that noone pays me to think... and, for that matter, noone really pays me at all... WTF?! |
I was going to say that.
"why should I be different than anyone else" |
ok, this computer basically died, but I needed to get it back up and running. so I revived it... I've installed Ubuntu Studio 8.04 and winxp sp2. like and idiot I did
20GB: winxp
20GB: ubuntu
430GB: shared storage (fat32)
I go to install photoshop and that itself takes 18GB! |
You still running PVR software on this? MythTV or something? Has there been any cool developments in that shit lately? I remember a year or so ago if you wanted HD DVR you were better off just getting a DVR from your cable company. Cablecard shit that allowed HD was just coming out for computers but it was only available on OEM machines like Dells and Sonys. |
wtf photoshop is 18 gigs???? |
the pvr worked for maybe a month. I installed winxp and ubuntu once again. ubuntu worked then failed to boot. reinstalled and I now won't start the xserver. |
