The Boston Celtics [team stats] have slam-dunked their hyperkinetic mascot, Lucky, a.k.a. Damon Lee Blust, after he spent five years wowing fans with his catapults and acrobatics.

The world champs’ front office released a statement today about the departure of their bow-tied, bowler-topped cheerleader: “Damon Blust, who played the role of “Lucky” the Celtics mascot, is no longer employed by the team. We appreciate his many efforts in entertaining Celtics fans as well as his work in the community while a member of the Celtics organization.”

Sources claim that Damon, a fixture in the stands as well as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Southie and many charitable events, had “issues” with management. But other Garden snitches say the mascot missed many scheduled benefit appearances and was “unreliable.” D’oh!


Blust was MIA from the Garden parquet during last night’s 119-100 win by the Celtics against the Sacramento Kings.
