I enjoy trying to OC random computers to see how far I get.

Other than that I have no nerdy guilty pleasures. I am a nerd, I pleasure myself with video games and I feel no guilt.

I'm pretty sure I'm on record once or twice around here as being a regular D&D player. Not sure you could call it guilty, though - I'm downright unapologetic about it.

Dungeons & Dragons (not just the AD&D orig, but whitewolf stuff, and others too.... and i mean the real ones with DICE not on a puter.)
I still have a couple dozen decks of Magic cards i made over the years.
Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars. The books, the movies, the anime, the games, the trading cards. (not the dolls)
Sci Fi/Fantasy books in general ie. wheel of time, dune.

And again, i feel bad about nothing, but this shit is geeky as hell.

Also history nerdism. Jim, when are we gonna get some dice rolling?

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Mar 12,2009 10:13am
lets do soon. Sorry fo the delay. When you playing next? And is there anyway you could play on a fri/sat? (Not this weekend)

kids couldn't handle my lvl 35 cleric. then i stopped playing. went to MMORPGs (lol) and FPS

My brother, who is the farthest thing from a nerd, loves playing Warhammer 40k. Don't ask me why, because I certainly have no clue. I sometimes have to put him in his place when he busts me for being a nerd. I'm like "dude you spend 8 hours painting plastic figures"

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 12,2009 10:15am
D&D in a large group pisses me off... the last people I campaigned with... well, let's just say that a glass table got broken atleast twice while playing.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Mar 12,2009 10:18am
well, you have to be selective about who you play with.
When i DM i usually weed out the "bads" weekly. Anyone played the Star Wars roleplaying game? It's wonderful.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Mar 12,2009 10:32am
i'm all about old school toys, D&D, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Mar 12,2009 10:38am
4-6 players and a GM is the sweet spot for me. LOL @ rhymerock - I have a pretty absurdly huge Ork army for WH40K.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Mar 12,2009 10:40am
Yea thats what I play as when he has me play against him. He has two armies: 2100pt Eldar and 1800pt Black Templars. I can usually pull out a win against the black templars because of mob rule and the goodies meks and painboyz have.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Mar 12,2009 10:40am
i know before i opened this thread it would quickly become a conversation about dungeons and dragons.

We can figure something out. Maybe some fast-and-dirty Classic ('81 Basic Set) with Darkwor d00dz.

Here's some of my stuff.

Watching MacGyver episodes over the internet on my computer that I just upgraded with a 500w Antec Earthwatt power supply and Nvidia 8600GT with 1GB dedicated video RAM.

I'd have to say The clan of the cave bear.

Not really a geek cult movie but it can be rather geeky I feel.

i like harry potter and lord of the rings movies. i buy harry potter on dvd when it comes out and will see it in theaters if anyone will go with me.

i collect comics, not as much as i did before, but a couple select titles. and i still have hundreds from when i was a kid. crammed into my closet.

i have some action figures in there as well.

i have a huge dvd collection that no non-virgin should have

i still watch cartoons

if you catch me when i'm alone i'll most likely be talking to myself. reciting dialogue for possible stories i write. if i'm alone in my room, i'll act out action scenes too. not as much as i used to. but i still do it. maybe i'm just crazy there.

i'll think of other stuff.

Tolkien's Legenadrium and the entire Cthulhu Mythos get my nerd respect. I haven't played D&D since I was a kid, but I'd be totally down with playing again.

Yea those are pretty beastly.

I just got done cleaning out our netAPP of backlogs and snapshots.

I've backed all my photo stuff up to a drobo and at my work and a 1.5TB drive to shuttle massive changes.

the drobo has 4.1TB of storage so I took all of carina's 500GB, 250GB, 200GB, etc... drives and put them all into one folder on my Drobo. That Folder is 1.89TB right now. I started running a "remove duplicates" program called Clone Master. Started it at 6pm last night and it's still not done. It found 175K duplicates thus far. I'm going to remove all her dups and organize it. Hopefully it will all fit on a 1.5TB drive so that I can give it to her and she can organize it more herself. Then I will spread it out over pairs of 500GB and 1TB drives.

Once that is done, I will hook the pairs to an old laptop and share one of the pairs so that she can copy things to/from it on her network. in the background, I will nightly mirror additions and then monthly sync deletes/updates. (so that a virus doesn't wipe out both drives)

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 12,2009 3:57pm
once all that is done... I will clean my drobo out and merge the 3 2TB partions (damn xp) to a single 16TB partition.

HeroQuest rules. A rare joint effort between Milton Bradley and Games Workshop (the UK company that does Warhammer). That shit was the gateway drug to D&D for a whole lotta folks.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Mar 12,2009 4:37pm
i loved heroquest. i was always the wizard who controlled all the bad guys. my cousin would play as the dwarf, who was always named Dickbite the Dwarf. i wrote a power metal song about Dickbite a long time ago.

and THAT is how you store data people. Some STILL use floppy disks to store their doctoral theses on...or USB flash drives and nothing else, or their 100GB laptop hard drive that they think will last forever.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Mar 12,2009 4:43pm
another fond heroquest memory:

i got the return of the witchlord expansion pack and it said something about escaping the witchlord's gaze, so we changed it to gays and pretended the monsters were fags.

I'm a huge Superman fan. I have comics in plastic covers tacked to my walls. I have a vinyl record of an old Superman episode. I have the old cartoons on DVD. I have a Superman keychain. I also plan on getting a Superman tattoo. I have 2 Superman comics autographed by Ed McGuinness. I got them signed when he did a signing at the Paperback Bazaar in Somersworth back in like 2003.

Tom baker is the best old school doctor who. I just finished "Genesis of the Daleks" and "Robot." TNG might as well be my religion. Marvel comics are just like fucking text books.
