Dead serious. Word is that the Jets have traded away Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnik, a 3rd and a 5th for the 2008 leader in dropped passes in the NFL.

Stuckey wasn't a big name, but he was explosive, had decent hands and a great ability to create yards after the catch. I think they fucked themselves here especially considering the draft power they're giving up. I'd call the move Steinbrenner-esque.

anyone with the name Chansi deserves to be a big name.

Edwards is going to pick a fight with one of Kevin Garnetts friends.

Oh, and Edwards is up for a possible suspension in 2009 or 2010 for punching a promoter outside a nightclub. Oh AND the Jets are being investigated for tampering with Michael Crabtree.

Oh, and MC Hammer is being tied to the Crabtree negotiations.

a friend of mine had a thought on this and I think I agree

the Jets made this move because they are worried about what is gonna happen with the Crabtree tampering charges...making this move gives them plausible deniablity by "proving" they were after Edwards all along

Oh, so it's good for other players to be raging alcoholics that run people over and have dog fights and beat their family up, but one measily punch to the friend of the King deserves a suspension too?

I fail to see how one punch justifies a suspension, given the magnitude of all the other stuff that goes down in the NFL.

I heard he's serving the suspension cleaning out Lebron James pool.

I bet you the punch was thrown because of some comment about how Lebron James would make the browns a contender. Which, woulnd't surprise me. the dude was a football star in highschool as well. standing at 6'9'' and being a WR with speed and strength = unstoppable force.

Did you see Shaq's reality show where he play quarterback? Worst show ever.

It tough to call anything Shaq does a "reality show" because that dude lives in another universe 24/7.

the show that shaq stole from steve nash?

i'd have rather seen nash in it. he's not as funny and entertaining as shaq, but he can hold his own in that department plus he's a far superior athlete. he would've stood more of a chance against the other athletes than shaq.

when dirty sanchez isn't throwing interceptions, he'll be throwing balls that edwards will drop. great move.

That's a lot to give up to try and shrug off the tampering charges. You've got to figure: A. considering the rampant amount of tampering that goes on and the few disciplinary measures that are done about it there isn't a huge chance that the Jets will get nailed. B. What's the point in trying to prove you weren't in the market for a big name receiver by going out and getting a big name receiver? C. Mortgaging your offense and your draft on Braylon Edwards shows you're dumb enough to do anything... including tamper.

while all your points are good, I still think its not out of the realm of possibility...especially if, as you said, you're dumb enough to mortgage all that on Edwards....that means you're dumb enough to think this will work in getting the tampering charges dropped
