nice. i would have switched some things around moving down the list, but the top 10 is solid. |
Deus Ex is not the greatest pc game ever. it's no wonder why I switched to pc games/pc accelerator when pc gamer started to suck. I still have all their old mags and demo discs. |
How dare they put hl2 and tf2 above halflife. What a joke. They'll be getting an angry letter to the editor. |
absolute garbage. This site needs to be hacked |
this is the worst order of games in the history of ordering games |
system shock 2 in the top 20 is the only positive thing so far.
everytime I click the next list, I'm shaking my head. This is pure shit |
this list has to be the biggest disgrace in pc gaming history |
thanks for ruining the holidays for me, ark. |
LOL, Deus Ex doesn't even run on your machine...you're arrested
i'm still LOLing at the conversation with yourself |
I was replaying it a few months ago. it sure does. |
on your VOODOO3?
i do want to get into a scholarly argument about how HL2 and TF2 are better but since i just got home, i'm gonna smoke a bowl and fire up TF2 and see how long i can keep my window open before my snot freezes to my face |
I've got a geforce2 mx 64 mb.
Hl2 ain't in the top 20 on my list |
this is the worst order of games in the history of ordering games |
you didnt see the recent Game Informer top 200 games of all time list then, did you? |
Lol this is one of the funniest threads I've ever read |
why the fuck is TF2 on there? that shit is an abomination to all compettitive gamerrs out there. |
This thread put me into a deep depression. |
that list is dogshit. i wouldnt put a single one of those in the top 10. fallout 2 would be on my list, but not 3
edit: actually half life definitly deserves it |

explain - is it the critical hits and medics?
either way the game is as competitive as i want to get, i don't need more twitchy douchebags yelling in their mics. |

smart man, that's probably the only part of this list that isn't debatable. |
This thread put me into a deep depression. |
1. Deus Ex (good game, but deserves to be on the list much lower.)
2. Half-Life 2 (give me a break. This game was overhyped. The source engine was talked about for years, yet when doom III came out, it had more fluid gameplay)
3. Team Fortress 2 (what are you smoking crack?)
4. Half-Life (deserves to be 1-3)
5. Rome: Total War (Rome: total garbage. out of all the games like this they pick this one? Fuck that)
6. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (morrowind and daggerfall were better. this game rehashed old ideas and made them better looking. it had ridiculous exploits too - the worst being baiting that lady of the cave, making her run into the lake to drown, and stealing her armor which happens to be one of the best in the game)
7. Fallout (meeeh. top 30, not top 10)
8. Planescape: Torment (yea ok. give me a fucking break)
9. Thief II: The Metal Age (move this shit down to 50 and call it a day)
10. Fallout 3 (your arrested)
ok here's mine, i'm stringing some series together, and NOT thinking to hard about it -
1. Half-Life 2, mods
2. Half-Life, mods
3. Starcraft
4. Deus Ex
5. Baldur's Gate 2
6. Fallout series
7. System Shock 2
8. Quake series
9. Unreal series
10. Team Fortress 2
(no love for adventure games in my top 10 i guess)
i agree with you on everything else except Planescape: Torment, Thief 2 and Fallout 3, those would be high up. |
1. SCI FI FPS
2. WWII FPS
3. MEDIEVAL FPS
4. MODERN DAY FPS
5. HORROR SCI FI FPS
6. FPS
7. FPS
8. WWII FPS
9. SCI FI FPS
10. FANTASY FPS
HEY GUYS I HAVE DIVERSITY IN MY GAME SELECTIONS |
ITT: A Jim getting mad about nothing. |
he's really not though, remember he's never serious on RTTP... |
yea I could really care less about this list in all honesty. |
however that being said, I do disagree with about 99% of it. But that's all good, everyone has their opinions. |
i don't care what PC Gamer thinks the top 100 games are either, my point in posting this was PC gaming was great back in the day and there's nothing wrong with it today imo.
mostly posted to spite you though, especially since they put TF2 in 3rd place! |
and you don't have to get smiley with me, mister. |
no, thanks for posting it. It was a great laugh. I can't believe they (and you) hold hl2 in high regard. that was a major disappointment, except near the end.
I only believe that though because I loves how the majority of hl1 was underground in a base. I think hl2 was mostly just a shoddy followup that showed off the new source engine. The game would have been a lot better if it had more indoor action. not sure why, but I prefer my fps games in closed environments, usually. |
The PCGamer list has to be one of the worst lists i've ever seen.
This is only my personal list.. not an opinionated one
1. Half life 2 ( most fun i've ever had playing a game)
2. Ultima VI / VII / VIII
3. Wing Commander Series
4. X-wing vs Tie fighter
5. Half life
6. Diablo I/II
7. Morrowwind/ Oblivion
8. Space Quest / King's Quest
9. Quake 1
10. Unreal / Unreal Tournament and mods
Honorable mention : Wizardry 8, Max Payne, Deus Ex, Doom 1, Ultima Online, Warcraft Series, Call of Duty 4, Counterstrike, TF2, Baldurs Gate 1+2 .... im sure there is a ton more i'm forgetting |

i need to converse with you more often. thats a good list and excellent honorable mentions with the exception of TF2(i'll always be a HL1 mod fan over HL2 mods even though I play both) |
I just very recently got sucked into TF2. While I feel it takes a bit less skill than say .. counterstrike... (and keep in mind, i somehow avoided TF1) .. its polished as hell and valve really has something going with the personalities that each class has, extra weapons (i.e more strategies) and the sense of community that the game has with it. I don't feel terrible or mind numb everytime I play TF2. Imo, it's a great game. |
Was age of wonders on the list!?!?
That would be my top. |

Its a fun game definitely. I just hate the community. Everywhere its all about getting the highest individual points and/or getting the stupid hats. I hear more mic chatter about those god damn hats that do nothing than I do actual strat calls hahaha. Beyond that the game is playable albeit easily. Thats another gripe I have with the source mods compared to the HL1 mods is the fact that the source games are waaaay easier to be good at than the HL1 mods. They went from easily to learn but hard as fuck to master with TFC/cs 1.6 to even EASIER to learn and easy to master with TF2/CS:S/DoD:S virtually eliminating the skill gap.
The latter gripe is kind of bias as the every day player probably doesn't give two shits about competitive play. Thats just what I enjoy out of my FPS. Yea pubbing is hella fun but I get more enjoyment in 5v5 scrims and matches, coming up with strats and using them to win. |
good list.
i forgot sid meier games. alpha centauri, civ series... |

1. Deus Ex
2. Half-Life 2
3. Team Fortress 2
4. Half-Life

nice. i would have switched some things around moving down the list, but the top 10 is solid. |
I played 1 of those games. |
I wish I was at a computer and not a phone. I'd list my top 50. |
Carmageddon gets a nod in my top 20.
The dig too. |
forgot about KOTOR 1+2, Sam and Max (OG) and Day of the Tentacle (almost any lucasarts game in the early and middle 90's), Thief 1 (it was really the first sneak around game I played and had loads of atmosphere), Crusader : No remorse |
Props for Lucas arts in the mid 90s. The dig, what I just mentioned is one of those. |
no diablo or starwars x-wing |
lucas arts made some bad ass mid 90's PC games. |
Diablo is ovrerrated click n slash IMO.
Good game but worthy of top 10? Fuckkk no |
Rollercoaster Tycoon was one of my favorite PC games ever. |
ARIL CANT HANDLE MY HAMMERDIN |
Diablo was for me, about the atmosphere, the music, the polish... and battle.net was a game changer at the time. |
Normality, sim city 2000, the neverhood, need for speed II, age of wonders, homeworld, Starcraft, rainbow 6, shadow warrior, doom III, doom, blood, all ultimas, among many others need to be higher on the list.
If turok is on that list then I'm official done with pc gamer. |
NFS II was a bad ass game for it's time. Homeworld also. |
I agree with you about diablos atmosphere etc. To me, that's what made the game. But I think the overall style and game play got extremely repetative. Was never a huge fan of those click adventures. |
i dont have an order but mine would be diablo 2, half life, starcraft, doom 2, quake, warhammer 40000: dawn of war, star wars: knights of the old republic, fallout 2, warcraft 2
these are all great games. to rate them on a list is really lame.
i like the diablo series a lot, mainly for the music(!) and atmosphere, but the point and click does gets tired quickly. not enough strategerey. blizzard games never fail to have excellent music and sound, i'm excited for starcraft 2 and diablo 3 if only for the music alone.
i can say the most fun i've ever had playing pc games was half-life 2 (to this day) and starcraft. |
oh wow. yeah.
Homeworld won game of the year. Surprised it wasn't higher on the list. |
I don't understand how Warcraft 2, Wolfenstein 3-D and Doom aren't on that list. Those are my fondest memories when I played games on the PC. |
I guess it's tough because there's so many games. No ones played them all. I remember most of them from all my demo discs I had.
If you guys like fantasy and turn based strat, I highly recommend age of wonders (1st one). Perhaps one of the most epic games ever.
I'm also surprised that not many mid 90s Sierra games made it high up. Lords of the realm II was awesome and essential to turn based games. |
