Just picked this up... all of the songs are remastered and it sounds incredible.
The 2nd disc contains all instrumental tracks of the whole album, which slays as well. There's also some rare demo material included on this that I've never heard before.
The booklet includes a real nice write-up by Paul Masvidal on Death and Chuck. Definitely a must-own for any DEATH fans. It's at Newbury's for $9.99 right now...

Sounds like it might be worth a repurchase. Do you know if they're gonna rerelease the album with the bonus shit on vinyl?

I am not sure, quite possibly. That's up to Relapse though, and I doubt it.

A reputable member of the RTTP community told me Chuck died of AIDS he contracted from using MAC OS 7.

I have to at least acknowledge the negative things as a drummer. They definitely took away some of the low end of the bass drums and some of the effects/reverb on the bass and I think it makes the album sound a little thin compared to the original tape I have and the first release on cd. It is still great, but just use to the old sound, which to me made it great for the unique drumming of Sean Reinert. The extra stuff is great!

some times the remastering thing can lose the original atmosphere the sound had in the original. other times it can bring a whole new and better feeling to the material.

example 1: the remaster of Schizophrenia by Sepultura. i think it improves the listening experience and a good job was done overall especially considering it was a minor remaster.

example 2: Rust in Peace by Megadeth. i think Dave went overboard and while the production is fantastic and to a first time listener, it would sound really great... i miss the old vocal patterns and the old bass lines and the old atmosphere that masterpiece had. i thought it was a breath of fresh air after not hearing the original for a while... but the more i compared the two, the more i gravitated back to the original.

wall of text aside. this anniversary release is awesome.

yeah i'm on the fence about remastering. two of my favorite albums were remastered and it brought them to life, Slow Deep and Hard by Type O Negative and Streetcleaner by Godflesh. however other remasters have robbed them of their sound.

I am usually on the fence about it as well, but I like what they did here. Especially since it was done by people who are very familiar with Death (hint hint)
