It's LaVey. His Satanism is real, but only if you realize that he poached all of his ideas from Ragnar Redbeard's "Might Is Right." Then he profited off all the suckers

That is Satanism. Steal from the strong, trick the weak, profit.

I was discussing that last night with the fiance as we watched "From Hell." Not a bad movie, but glosses over some Alan Moore's more grandiose ideas on the subjects at hand, particularly one of my favourites, his perception of time and dimensions.

Naked woman as altars are generally used in various black masses. They should traditionally have green eyes and red hair, as this is appealing to Satan His Dark Majesty. Huysman's book, Le Bas, gets pretty heavily into the Black Mass, in all its beauty, detail, symbolism, and majesty.

A warning though, Huysman became a Catholic monk after he got involved in REAL Satanism...he was quite frightened when he found out that the Devil is very, very real, and figured out that "God" must be real as well.

One of my favourite fucking movies, ever.

Christopher Lee exemplifies everything that is awesome and true about metal and horror. So does Peter Cushing.

BTW, Alan Moore definitely has more than one naked lady altar in his house.

Hammer spared no expense in its pursuit of nakedlady altar. Satanic Rites of Dracula is a sacred sacrament for all the terrible cult. And yes, Andy, "La Bas" is the manual. That book really helped me refine my Satanism. "A perfectly inverted Catholicism".

Only Canon Docre is real.

I think it was a good film. You can't cover ever concept explored in a comic in a one and a half to three hour movie, that's why we have both movies, and comics.

I actually like all of the movies that have been made out of Alan Moore's work, however, I have not seen the Swamp Thing from the early 80's, and Ang says it is fucking atrocious.

Of course, so was Texas Chainsaw Massacre II, and I love that movie.

"These are just kids. Just a bunch of wild punks...out raising hell."

^ to be fair, Moore's run on Swamp Thing didn't come until AFTER the movie, so it's not really his fault.

toggletoggle post by eyehatehippies  at Sep 16,2011 11:54am
Geez, got my French wrong. La Bas, feminine, not masculine. Good thing I studied French for six years, to get the most basic word in their language incorrect.

Yeah, Satanic Rites of Dracula is a fucking masterpiece. It's funny that the three "modern" Hammer movies, that attempted to bring the Dracula mythos into the 20th century were some of the least commercially successful, but now have one of the biggest cult followings some 40 years after the fact.

What do you think of the "Space Dracula" one that Hammer did? I still need to see it, but "space horror" is probably one of my favourite genres, especially for cult movies. I love Galaxy Of Terror, Starcrash, Battle Beyond the Stars, any of that old, cheesy, cult sci-fi stuff with a dark twist, shallow male characters, and scantily clad females.

What's the name of that space vampire one that Hammer did?

Good point, but like myself, keep in mind that Moore sees all time as happening simultaneously, so past, present, future, cause, effect, fault, blame, after these things all cease to matter, for they have no meaning in our universes.

He's pretty cool. To me, he's more like a cross between Lovecraft, Crowley, and Christopher Lee.

Yup, I've got both versions of that movie, they did a "remake", it was basically the same movie. Love it.

I just googled that. It's called Dead Space. Had no idea they even did a remake to that. (The game that has the same name is mind numbing. Both 1 and 2). Total agreement on Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Watched Twins Of Evil a few weeks back. Total awesomeness.
Other recommendations- Alucadra, Vampyres , The Devil's Rain, Devil's Wedding Night, most of the Jean Rollin collection also.

Great movie. Great music too. There is a old VHS release of this with Elvira doing her comedy bit between breaks from the movie. Really took the flow out of the movie, even you know Elvira was awesome.
Another great one. The Craving (Night Of The Werewolf.)with Paul Naschy.

Sorry to get off topic but, what the hey.

toggletoggle post by Headbanging_Man at Sep 16,2011 8:32pm
The Elvira release is available on DVD too, with the option of skipping over her nonsense. The print is pretty good too (letterboxed and pretty crisp, albeit missing some frames around the reel changes), I bet it's a major improvement on the VHS, though there are still little commercial-break style fade-outs at points. Either way, I've seen copies at Newbys for about 4 bucks, which is well worth it (being a nerd for everything Italo-cult I shelled out for a different print on the grey market after I realized what a fantastic flick this is!).

Night Of The Werewolf is damn good fun; I like the original version, Werewolf Shadow, a bit more atmosphere-wise, but they really amped up the gore for the remake! Night even made it to Bluray, miraculously, I just wish I had gotten my hands on one before the label went under.

Nothing off-topic about it, Euro-Horror-Sex cinema circa 1971-1983 is about as occult as it gets!

More of Rosalba's perky pencil-eraser nipples coming next month with the first official release of Lady Frankenstein, incidentally...

I found the DVDr rip in full a while back. I forgot there was that option. Needs a rewatch.......damn it.

Both Night Of the werewolf and Werewolf shadow are awesome. I remember that came out on blu ray and I'm a bit kicking myself for not grabbing it. I had the DVD re release. Managed to find a 720p rip of it. Felt like xmas!
