Suicide is a part of life and will never end. However many suicides are preventable and are truly just a result of a condition...a condition still surrounded by enough skepticism and ridicule to discourage some people from ever assessing their issues properly and seeking treatment. Young people who have yet to learn what life really has to offer them do not need to die. People will always choose to die, but for victims of a chemical imbalance that have either had no success with depression treatments or have never sought treatment due to the shame and lack of encouragement to treat their episodes as a real illness, fundraisers such as these exist.


For every band involved this event, their inspiration for participating comes from the recent loss of close friends and family, and the grief in themselves and their loved ones that remains a part of daily life.
If an urge to help other families reach better outcomes than our own is "funderground", I am proud to have Stone Crown and Obsidian Tongue written off as such by everyone on this forum.

There is no such "condition" as depression. There is no such illness, nor is there such a thing as a chemical imbalance. None of that is backed up by actual science, if you actually do the research rather than just fall victims to a clever marketing scheme and a culturally adopted myth. American has one of the worst mental health systems in the world, worse than third world countries, and a big part of the reason is that Americans have bought into this model of "chemical imbalance". It's not real, there is no such thing, it's based on a flawed, outdated theory that is all but disproved. As one psychiatrist put it, "if you believe in any of this stuff, you might as well buy a Bible, because it's all based on faith. There is no science to back any of it."

Anti-depressants do not clinically out perform placebos in actual trials. We have no idea how they work, and have no idea if there is a biological mechanism for prolonged feelings of sadness. Our understanding of brain chemistry is simply too limited, and the science behind these theories was flimsy in the 70's. With nearly 40 years of marginal advances, it's beyond flimsy, it's laughable.

You're not making a difference if you're pushing forward outdated, false ideas based on marketing schemes and bad science. You're part of the problem, not the solution.
