I'm listening to The Mantle for the first time in 4 or 5 months. Soooooo awesome. Pale Folklore is awesome also, and their new split is incredible too, both the Agalloch track, and the Nest track that Haughm and Anderson guest on. Let's try to make this thread more Agalloch appreciation than bashing.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Aug 27,2004 10:54pm
Clearly there is not enough appreciation going on.

Agalloch is awesome. \m/
I reviewed The Mantle in the last Heavy Rotation. I'd love to see them again.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Aug 27,2004 11:01pm
I didn't see them when they came around. They need to do a full US tour, they could top the bill at the Palladium no problem at all.

i saw them at The Middle East last year. i totally forget who they opened for, but the crowd didn't seem to like them very much. *shrug* I was completely blown away.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Aug 27,2004 11:09pm
That was February of this year. I'm pretty sure they headlined, but the other bands were November's Doom, The Gathering, and Lucubro. Actually, I guess November's Doom probably headlined. But I can't imagine the crowd not liking Agalloch. That is sad.

sorry i didn't take pics of lucubro
the gathering headlined, before them was Agalloch, before that november's doom and first was lucubro

Ohhh, right... I remember now. I was not impressed with The Gathering's performance.

And if anyone likes Lucubro, they're playing their last show @ The Skybar on Sept 16th.

Awesome pics Carina \m/

Awwww, this thread reaching the 2nd page is totally not cool at all.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2004 6:58am
I've been listening ot the song the mantle a lot.

toggletoggle post by Lynneaus  at Aug 28,2004 8:29am
i saw them back in february but i saw the tour up in toronto...

agalloch was good... but The Gathering stole the show.

still i think agalloch is one of those bands its hard standing watching .... certain bands i need to feel like im in my livingroom watching..

toggletoggle post by thornnvine  at Aug 28,2004 9:31am
I thought the Gathering head lined the middle east show.

I've been listening to Agalloch for a while now. They are right down the road from where I used to live, Seattle. My old band has played several shows with them after I left and moved out here. The Middle East was the first and only time I've seen them though.

They seemed to have gotten a lot of recognition quickly.

That first CD is pretty good but has one of the worst guitar solos I've ever heard.

i love agalloch. haughm was such a dork onstage though. i need to hear that split. i've been a big fan of them for a while. they were way better than 3 months from now's doom and lucubro at that show, but i must agreee the gathering was unbelievable and could not be topped. one of the best shows i've ever seen.

The first three songs on Pale Folklore just owned my morning. Great album.

in b4 Jimboar defends The Gathering...good band but they did not make The Mantle

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Apr 30,2010 9:36am
Never got the appeal of that band. Even their "death/doom" album "Always" is weak compared to the earlier works of Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, and Anathema.

agreed. i have "Pale Folklore" and it just bores me. it has some really cool parts, but overall it doesn't really go anywhere. i think i feel Hoser's sniper rifle laser sight on my head.

Pale Folklore rules.

Example below

The gathering and novembers doom both sucked at that mid east show...

I used to only really like pale folklore. I credit mikeov for changing my mind about the mantle. Now I prefer that over PF

I love the entire discog. I'd have to say mantle is my fav though.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Apr 30,2010 9:45pm
This band rules. I haven't listened to them in forever though. Definitely giving The Mantle and Pale Folklore their due listens tonight.

toggletoggle post by Spaldino at Apr 30,2010 9:51pm
earlier Anathema is garbage compared to all of their other non-death/doom efforts. that is 10032% fact. their new album is going to RAPE.

Retzam :(

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at May 1,2010 4:34am
Calling it garbage is a stretch; I think Serenades and Crestfallen are great. However, I've liked everything that Anathema has released.

toggletoggle post by quintessence_nli at May 1,2010 5:00am
Early the gathering was pretty cool before they got the girl...That middle east Agalloch set was great. I like all their stuff. November's Doom is just awlful.

this band has some pretty cool parts, and some fucking awful parts

http://lolhead.blogspot.com/2010/09/day-in-life-of-agalloch-fan.html

The day begins to the irritating alarm of your cellphone. You could change it to a ringtone, but don't feel you deserve the satisfaction. You masturbate to pictures of your ex-girlfriend from three years ago—a girl named Kelly from Kinkos who taught you to fax and remains unaware of your relationship. After the minute is over, you walk head down to the shower in shame and sob under cold waters. You prefer warm showers, but take cold showers as you read serial killers do it and believe it's a cool attribute to impress your friends with. Your only friends are two LARPers who pretend to like you because your Mom carpools. Around this time you call up your friends to make arrangements to "Tag up trains 'n' shit like Mark Ecko," but you never do, opting to flee the scene of any urban area at the slightest rustle of wind.

Shortly after noon, you enjoy a breakfast of apple sauce and Dunkaroos, then curse your Mother for not having brought Poptart S'mores the stormy night before. Teary-eyed and full of hate, you run to your room and put "The Mantle" on full blast, just after flipping the bird at God (a ceiling fan). During the profound auditory experience you peep Andrew Pierson's photography, Rotten.com and write "Fuck everything." on your Facebook wall. When the album is done you weep continuously for 2 hours, then attempt to call your Father and forgive his repeated attempts to enroll you in school, before realizing the oppressing sadness of Skeletor's vocals prevent you. You browse Lambgoat for a while and write, "That's killer!" in every deez_nutz thread.

Come night, you weight lift to "Not Unlike the Waves," convinced this time you'll stick with it and turn your life around. Three pumps of an empty bar later you give up, and consider how your life would be better as a rock, if only you could listen to Agalloch as a rock. You eat a well-deserved bag of MorningStar Chick'n Nuggets, then feed your pet iguana. You go to the local hole-in-the-wall bar which you insist on calling a pub. By miracle a goth girl talks to you. The conversation ends when she brings up her affinity for Staind. You say, "Haha, that's pussy numetal shit," not realizing if you slowed Staind down and replaced the word "girl" with the word "forest" the bands would be identical.

The goth responds with, "I would've fucked you if you weren't such a stupid faggot." You go home and listen to Pale Folklore. You put out your candles with your tears. You pray you'll wake up an elf.
