Nachtmystium(Chicago Black Metal...)
Zoroaster (Atlanta, GA sludge doom...)
The Body(Providence wall of sound doom...)
Baphomet's Horns(CT black thrash...)
Tuesday December 12th 9pm
@ Redrum in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence
So we here at Armageddon decided to get this show booked here in Providence. Been a long time since we had a fairly well-known touring metal band that was down to do a D.I.Y. style gig. Nachtmystium have a good handful of releases out now, and the label run by Blake(Battle Kommand) has distribution/collaboration with both Southern Lord and HydraHead. I'd have to say that if you haven't seen them, it's time to get out of the house and check it out. All reports from their tour with Sunn 0))) last year, and various gigs this year, the live sets are killer. Not really sure what else to say. If you're into checking out the Black Metal thing, and bands like Xasthur, Twilight, Leviathan, Watain, etc. are things you dig, this will be another to add to that list.
...And as for Zoroaster from Atlanta, we've been spinning the cd at the shop for the last two weeks over and over. It's good. I can only guess they're going to be loud and heavy as fuck. If you like stoner/doom/sludge metal, this is it...
I'm printing up some flyers for Armageddon. I will check with them, and I can easily add Baphomet's Horns onto the flyer.
(They have been busy, so they probably just omitted by mistake)

This is a message for Baphomet's Horns:
I contacted Chris at the store, and he got in touch with Ben. The reson you are not on the flyer, is that he was still waiting for a confirmation that you are doing the show. Give them a call and verify that. The store's number is 401 521-6667.
Personally I would like you to do the show. I really like your stuff. So do it.

S.W.F.M
I think I'm probably going to this out of having nothing else to do and since Wednesdays are my morning off, staying in on Tuesday nights really pisses me off.

Load in for the bands isn't until 8 pm, so the show probably wont start until 9:30-10:00 PM

I actually don't know what time this gig is getting off the ground...Redrum is hosting but it's an Armageddon gig so it'll be up to Ben...Im gonna guess 8ish..but thats EARLY in the "Ville"...sorry bro!

SHOW WILL START AT 9:30 at the LATEST. Not in the olneyville time zone time warp. Show up on time or you'll be missing bands. Bring $7. Bring Beer. Enjoy the metal.
awesomeness, all the bands appear to be here. I totally forgot that baphomet's horns and the body were playing until I saw them walking up the stairs. color me even more happy.
Ahhh ... I needed a show like that. I'm glad I was there in time to catch Baphomet's Horns. They are realy good. It was a nice mix of black and doom. Zoroaster impressed me (I didn't expect them to be as good as they were.) Nachtmystium played a couple extra songs, including one that is to be released on a split with Leviathan.
those photos came out really well. it's a little funny though. Nachtmystium were covered in smoke and red lights. The flash cut through that and gives all the details that couldn't be seen. This is how it looked to me ...
Redrum shows are always cool... once you get over the whole "late" shows thing that RI is more than world known for. I'm amazed that the "merrick" who posted here really was merrick. I was a little shocked when he showed up with matt pike. never see that dude anymore since both of us aren't at the palladium that often anymore.
baphomets horns: gineapig status for the sound. over-all they weren't loud enough. after a few songs, it got better. I think that their drummer needs to hit the drums harder. it seemed like he wasn't trying when he was hitting those skins. hey had a decently long set and it was the same set they played at hordes of darkness.
body, the: I had my earplugs.. but I think I need lower intestine plugs for the next show. these guys are one of those bands that I never want to hear on CD cause feeling the music is so much a part of the music that they are playing.
Hey, I'm curious as to what the setlist was for Nachtmystium. I think I recognized these songs: Bleed for thee / Cold Tormentor / Seed for Suffering / Chosen By No One / Here's To Hoping / Abstract Nihilism. Plus they played a new song that's not released.
Are there any Nachtmysium fans that can tell me what the other songs were?

Who brought the equipment for that stack of amps? I see two Orange cabs and a custom Green head!
That was fucking Matt Pike? I just thought that dude LOOKED like Matt Pike, but seemed shorter, so I didn't think it was him...holy fuck...I'm going to go beat my head against the wall for awhile for not recognizing him...fuck.

I got a chance to make it to the show. Had some trouble finding the place but i was glad I did. I missed the first few Baphomet's Horns songs. I must say though in defense of their drummer, I was watching him and its impossible to play that fast and play loud. Especially on an un-miced drum set...its nearly impossible to drown out two guitars and vocals while playing at that speed. But overall i dug their stuff. They were pretty tight. Im not into doom that much but The Body was ok. Zoroaster was definately different and pretty cool. And then as expected Nachtmysitum was great. Overall a good show and it was worth calling out of work for the next day.

Thanks to everyone who came to the show, respected the space, and had a good night. The bands were all good, everyone seemed to be psyched. That's why we do it. Thanks for coming out and supporting the bands.
Too bad we don't get more touring bands without that package tour BS/$$$. It's good when bands are down to do DIY style or small venue shows, which is all we're going to deal with after doing a few package tours. No room for local bands, too much $$, shitty attitudes from bands, ridiculous riders. We gave up on that shit.
Looking forward to whatever is next. Maybe Nunslaughter after the new year... Working on it. Don't ask us when, we'll post it when we know if it's going to happen.
Thanks again to everyone for coming out, and The Rev for doing this site.
why is dwyer posting on a black metal/doom show thread, it's like oil and water. go back to you safe haven caninus grind, this stuff is too scary for youz! you aint evile
Holy dwyver!
You're the star of the masquerade
No need to look so afraid
zorocaster: all that tube powered equipment blew out the power twice. Their set was really good, stonery doom. But at points they played the same riff for way too long. I was also dreading the 2hr ride home and work in the morning so their set seemed longer than it probably was. the drummer went through 3 sets of sticks! in the end they made a bunch of noise with feedback.
nachtmystium: smoke, lights, and everything even at a small DIY show? Awesome. These guys were awesome. 1/2 the set, I couldn't see anything either. I've never even heard these guys before and they were so good. They played 2 or 3 encores. It was getting really late at this point, but I didn't care cause they were so good. During their set, the crowd was so close and I didn't want to blind any one so I had to be very careful of my flash.
Also, seeing ben was cool. I wished I wasn't so tired and I could have spoken more. He looked like 5-years younger! I bet he's using an exfoliant.
Also, b-diddy and I went and got pizza at some new vegan pizza joint. It was totally late and I was going to pass, but headed there anyhow. We talke about our hopes and dreams and ate bbq chicken&sausage pizza (perfectly vegan) it ruled.
