Pretty fucking good so far.

Yeah it looks really good, I wanna play it, but I still gotta beat the first one, and I just started Killzone 2, which by the way is awesome.

toggletoggle post by Dankill at Mar 20,2009 12:14am
Already beat it. Good stuff.

Still need to play this & GTA4. I downloaded GTA4, haven't played yet. I think I want to play FEAR first though. I'll probably never find the time though :( :( :(

GTA4 is awesome. Chose your answers wisely as it affects the story of the game.

FEAR is an awesome single-player game. you could probably beat it in a couple nights if you're an FPS player. It scary as hell and fun to play at night.

FEAR2 Screws with your mind even more than the first one. Still not that far into the game but it is shweet so far.

awesome game. FEAR 1 is a classic, groundbreaking FPS that's almost in the same league as the Half-Life series, must play it on PC, in the dark, late night. there's always time, i don't care if you have to work tomorrow, no excuse.

toggletoggle post by G nli at Mar 20,2009 8:52am
seriously. it will scare you. make sure to play with headphones for the full crap-your-pants effect.

Played about four hours of FEAR 2 a few weeks ago at my brother-in-law's and couldn't really get into it. I wanted to like it but it isn't as good as some contemporary FPS's and in terms of horror I liked Dead Space a lot more.

More a solid rental than anything I'd buy.

Dead space was good but the story in FEAR i feel is more original and creepy. Don't get me wrong though I fucking LOVED Dead Space.

toggletoggle post by G nli at Mar 20,2009 8:56am
Especially the little twist ending. HOLY CRAP. Thats all I said afterwards haha

FEAR 1 is the better game. I'm not sure how to explain it but FEAR 2's gameplay mechanics are missing something (i.e. the guns don't feel as satisfying and the AI is cheap, enemies are somewhat generic). Also something about the atmosphere, FEAR 1 had you in a painstakingly designed office megacomplex for most of the game, where you were dropped from a chopper at the peak, and had to more or less plow your way deep underground, they really hit the feeling of isolation on that one.

FEAR 2's levels are kind of bland in comparison and more action oriented, although nuked city streets and a corporate-owned elementary school are excellent level ideas and they were still well-executed, but overall the gameplay mechanics feel cheap, if that makes any sense.

Bottom line, play FEAR 1 first, it's a classic FPS, and then give FEAR 2 a spin.

Yea I do agree with the mechanics that you pointed out. But I can look past that because it has such an awesome atmosphere. it keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting and NOT wanted to take that next corner out of fear.

Yeah I used to have FEAR 1 on my old pc and loved that game. The guns in FEAR 2 feel pretty weak and I hate level design where everything has a ruined aesthetic but there's only one set path through the environment. I mean there was a huge explosion that was strong enough to level all these buildings and blast a hole in the wall of the school hallway I'm running down, yet some door in the hallway is impenetrable. I thought the open-world of Far Cry 2 was pretty much perfect and what I'd like to see in all FPSs (although I found the lack of variety in the enemies you face detracted from the experience).

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Mar 20,2009 10:09am
i've only played about 3 hours worth of farcry2. i need to start playing that again.

toggletoggle post by darkwor  at Mar 20,2009 10:24am
That's the only shortfall of Far Cry 2 - it could have been the perfect FPS if it had more enemies besides Africans with a machine gun or Africans with a sniper rifle or Africans with a rocket launcher, or a Jeep full of Afros. Still it's one of my favorites, if only because I can run it on absolute full graphics settings on my PC..yeaaah

toggletoggle post by BobNOMAAMRooney at Mar 20,2009 10:26am
I also would have liked civilians in Far Cry 2 so I could burn down villages and shoot children.

woah woah woah woah woah woah.... let's not go nuts.

And also... FarCry is the worst series of games ever.

toggletoggle post by darkwor  at Mar 20,2009 10:58am
haha...yeah the other FarCry games really suck. and now that i read what i said, FEAR isn't THAT good, but still, better than 90% of other big FPS games out there. i did go a little nuts.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Mar 20,2009 10:59am
lol HL is in a league of its own.

Played the demo of this recently. Looks awesome and the controls are tits, but it is just a very typical FPS. I would rather buy RE5.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Mar 20,2009 1:31pm
Yeah FEAR is good. There are sooooooo many bad bad bad FPS's though, and I don't have very high tolerance for them. FEAR is playable and enjoyable, so they're definitely doing something right. I hold the HL & Doom/Quake franchises at the top of the list though. Nobody can touch em!

toggletoggle post by Dankill at Mar 20,2009 7:50pm
Play the first FEAR before you play the second. It makes the story fit better and you'll appreciate it more.
FarCry 2 was a good enough game, but it got annoying after a while how FUCKING LOOOONG it would take to get from one place to another without using the bus stops, on top of being attacked almost nonstop no matter where you go. It would have been more interesting if you had ways to manipulate, bribe, support or be supported by the different factions in the game.

Faction head:You'll be working in secret for this mission, so don't expect any help from our APR/UFLL guys.

Me: Whatever fag *gets shot at 8000 times by every single person he meets while traveling to the mission waypoint*

Faction head: Good work on that last mission, you fucking rule at killing people and are single handedly responsible for all the ass we're kicking. Oh here's another mission and remember, you'll be working in secret for this mission, so don't expect any help from our APR/UFLL guys.
